Old-Time Appalachian Music - Fiddle Tunes and Folk Songs -- Bluegrass and Original Folk

The Slickrock String Band offers authentic dance music as it was played in barns, parlors, and porches of the folks who first inhabited the Southern Appalachian Mountain region.  True American folk music - lively, serene, inspirational, it tells the stories of daily life, of hardships as well as the good times.  This is the music that migrated west with the pioneers and was frequently heard in the  early cowboy camps of the West.

They have recently added more Folk Songs to their shows:  From Bluegrass to contemporary and original compositions.

The Slickrock String Band performs the music with various combinations of fiddle, banjo, Autoharp, dulcimer and guitar.  They sing the songs with 2 part harmonies, pure and straightforward, as it was done "back then." With tight instrumentals and clean, melodic vocals, they incorporate tales of the old pioneers with humor and entertainment, telling the history of the coming of the instruments to the mountains, and to the West with the wagon trains.  A distinctive and unusual aspect of their music is Terry's ability to sing at the same time as she is playing the fiddle, a traditional part of Old-Time music that she finds fascinating. Doug's Old-Time banjo style is the perfect accompaniment for the fiddle as well as Autoharp and dulcimer.  The duo has preformed at many festivals and events around the Southwestern US, winning top awards in a number of band contests over the years. Usually performing as a duo, they occasionally invite (and welcome) friends to perform with them.
